Description
For the tomato tasting, home-grown tomatoes should be brought in clearly labeled bags to the tasting tables. They will be cut into bite-sized chunks for all to sample. Tasters can submit a vote for their favorite, which will be tallied near the end of the event. Three entries will be selected as the “People’s Choice” for the top tomatoes of 2011. The winners will be posted on our website.
The Sizzlin’ Summer Salsa Contest is an opportunity for home gardeners to flex not only their strengths in the garden, but in the kitchen as well. Salsa entries must be made with homegrown tomatoes and peppers, but after that the only limit is your imagination. Anyone with an entry should supply three two-ounce containers with lids for the salsa judges and four cups for guests to taste. There are three categories of salsa to submit for: Wimpy or Mild (very mild), Now You’re Talkin’! (medium heat), and Hot ChaCha!!! (very hot).
For your submission to be considered you must present your salsa between 10:00 and 10:30 am. Votes are tallied after all submissions have been judged. There are prizes for our winners.
Contestants are welcome to bring guacamole for tasting, but it will not be judged for the competition.
The competition is expected to be stiff. Do you have what it takes to take home the best salsa crown? Call (657) 278-4010 if you have any questions regarding the event and the rules.
