These and other tidbits about how the cities and places in Orange County got their names will be the focus of “Orange County Place Names A-Z,” a special program being offered by the Fullerton Public Library Tuesday, Oct. 25, as part of its annual month-long “Fullerton Reads” program.
The program, which is free to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Fullerton Main Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., adjacent to Fullerton City Hall.
Guest speaker will be Phil Brigandi, who has been researching Orange County’s past for more than 35 years. His book, “Orange County A to Z,” traces the stories of hundreds of local place names, from Abbotts Landing to Zuniga Park.
The “Fullerton Reads” program, previously known as “One Book, One Community,” was developed by the American Library Association as a means of fostering civic unity through everyone reading the same book.
The theme for this year’s observance is “All history is local,” and the book selected as the focus of the program is “Orange County: A Personal History” by Gustavo Arellano, managing editor of the “Orange County Weekly” and author of the newspaper column “Ask a Mexican.”
