Lost and Found in Nepal

What started as a fun hike through the Himalayas of Nepal took an unexpected and potentially dangerous turn when one hiker became separated from her group.
            Fortunately for that hiker, a Nepalese family found her and gave her food and shelter.  The next day, she was led by her hosts to her friends’ campsite.
            That “lost hiker” was Dr. Kristine Dennehey, associate professor of history at California State University, Fullerton, and she will share her experience in a special presentation at the Fullerton Main Library Tuesday, August 23rd, on “Trekking in the Himalayas:  Getting Lost and Found in Nepal.”
            Dennehey’s lecture, part of the Fullerton Public Library’s popular “Town and Gown International” series, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Osborne Auditorium of the Main Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., and admission is free. 
            Dennehey will discuss her experience in Nepal, focusing on the kindness of the Om Gurung Family, who took her into their home, and on the Nepalese village of Chiple, in which the family lives.  She will also give a brief history of the political situation in Nepal and tie it to observations made during her 2005 trip.
            At CSUF, Dennehey teachers classes in modern historiography, as well as Japanese, Korean, Asian and modern world history.  Her current research focuses on the environmental history of colonial Korea, and she has written numerous articles for scholarly publications.  One article recently published was “Resident Korean Labor ‘Movements’ in Postcolonial Japan,”
