Join the Manufacturing Executive Institute for this E-Learning Program:
Scrap and yield are different measurements that tell us different things about our production processes. Measuring and monitoring them precisely (and individually) is an important component of any process improvement initiative. If these values get co-mingled in the measurement procedures, underlying root cause analysis is certain to result.
This E-Learning Program presents the CORRECT definitions of yield, scrap and rework. The proper use of these terms as well as how each is calculated and monitored will be demonstrated. Specifically, we will address:
• How to PROPERLY measure yields… why is “yield” different from scrap?
• How to PROPERLY measure and account for scrap… what does scrap REALLY cost?
• Why yield and scrap metrics should NEVER be confused.
• How to segment and quantify rework activities.
• Trade-offs between scrap and rework... when is scrap cheaper than rework?
