Motorists are reminded that several streets will be closed temporarily in downtown Fullerton in conjunction with the city's 21st Annual "First Night Fullerton" New Year's Eve party.
Portions of north Pomona Avenue will be closed from 8 a.m. Dec. 30 until 5 p.m. Jan. 2. In addition, portions of Wilshire and Amerige avenues between Harbor Boulevard and Pomona will be closed from 8 a.m. on Dec. 31 until 2 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Harbor will be closed between Chapman and Commonwealth avenues from 3 p.m. Dec. 31, until 2 a.m. Jan. 1. Alternate routes for traveling north and south through the city are Lemon and Euclid streets, and Highland avenue.
Other road closures planned for the event are:
- Wilshire, between Harbor and the entrance to the alley leading to the Wilshire Promenade parking structure – closed 8 a.m. Dec. 30 until 5 p.m. Jan. 1.
- Wilshire, between the alley just east of Pomona to Pomona - closed 8 a.m. Dec. 30 until 5 p.m. Jan. 1.
- East Whiting Avenue, from Pomona to the parking structure – no parking from 2 p.m. Dec. 31 until 2 a.m. Jan. 1.
- West Whiting, from Harbor to the entrance to the Bank of America parking lot – closed from 3 p.m. Dec. 31 until 2 a.m. Jan. 1.
Free parking for "First Night Fullerton" will be available at the Transportation Center Parking Structure on Pomona, south of Commonwealth; the Plummer Parking Structure on the southwest corner of Lemon and Chapman; at public parking lots on Wilshire, between Harbor and Malden; and the Fullerton College parking lot on Lemon, north of Chapman Avenue.
"First Night Fullerton" is a New Year's Eve celebration featuring live entertainment, children's activities and a fireworks finale in a family oriented, alcohol-free atmosphere. Admission is free.
The festivities will take place from 7 p.m. to midnight, and will feature dozens of events staged at numerous sites in the streets, sidewalks and buildings of historic downtown Fullerton.
