National Passport Day at Fullerton Library

For something its size, it’s pretty powerful:  Even though it measures just under 5 inches high and less than 4 inches wide, it still has the ability to open the world to its holder.

“It” is a United States passport, and this powerful little document will be the guest of honor Saturday, March 10, when the Fullerton Public Library joins in the observance of “National Passport Day in the USA.”

And the library knows something about passports:  The Main Library provides and accepts passport application forms, and additionally takes passport photos. 

For “National Passport Day,” the Main Library will offer passport information to U.S. citizens, as well as accept passport applications.  There will also be activities for kids. 

The Main Library opens at 10 a.m., and passport services will be available until 3 p.m.

If you can’t make it to the library for “National Passport Day” on the 10^th, no worries:  The library offers passport services seven days a week. 

Persons wishing to apply for a passport must bring a certified copy of their birth certificate (no abstracts accepted) or their original naturalization certificate.  They will also need to bring a current identification card, such as a driver’s license.  Children seeking passports must be accompanied by both parents.

Persons wishing to renew passports must bring their old U.S. passport with them.

Passport applications and documents are mailed on a daily basis by the library to the U.S. State Department’s passport division for processing.

Fees from the passport service are used by the library to make additions to its book, magazine and audio-visual collections.

Of course, there’s a lot more to do at the library than apply for a passport.  The library offers an extensive collection of books, audio books and DVDs available for loan.  It also has an extensive collection of periodicals for perusing.

The Fullerton Main Library is located at 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., adjacent to Fullerton City Hall.  Library hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
