Seminar to discuss how to avoid becoming a fraud victim
Someone once said there are as many fraud schemes, or scams, as there are grains of sand on the beach. And, sadly, too often the target of those schemes is senior citizens.
As a result, it is absolutely essential today for seniors learn how to avoid becoming a victim. And this is where the Fullerton Community Center is ready to help.
On Monday, Jan. 23, the center will host a special seminar on mail and consumer fraud featuring, as guest speaker, an inspector from the U.S. Postal Service.
The program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Fullerton Community Center, which is temporarily housed at St. Mary’s Church, 340 W. Commonwealth Ave., while construction of a new center is under way.
The speaker willdiscuss the various methods of fraud, as well as explain the rights victims have in such cases. The program will also include a question-and-answer session, and informational materials will also be available to take home.
Adult children of seniors are especially encouraged to attend and learn how to better protect their parents against crime.
The program is free, but reservations are requested and may be made by calling the center at (714) 738-6305.
Persons requiring special accommodations to attend the program are asked to notify the center staff when making their reservations.
