Description
?10?
Our biggest Art Walk event will be highlighted by three artists featuring 10 works of art each and donating 10% to their favorite charities: Armina Contreras, WTLC; Sabrina Contreras, All The Arts for All the Kids; Phaedra/Lamzby Divey, www.greysave.org; Sarah Carter, www.worldrelief.org.
About the art:
A silent auction will be conducted to support our charities. It will include art, services from the community and beautiful gifts. 100% of the sales will go to the above mentioned charities. Plus, Matador will join us to offer their gourmet tacos, beer and wine.
On this evening, Phaedra will be presenting her new show, ?Safe?. Her 3 dimensional, mixed media show highlights the need and desire to be and to feel safe in the world around us. She feels that this show not only highlights the human condition, but reflects her volunteer experience with fostering retired racing Greyhounds. ?When they (Greyhounds) first come off the track, it?s like wayward waifs that have lost their purpose in life. The home fostering process teaches them about their new world, gives them their confidence back?we as volunteers are getting them ready to be adopted out to their new forever homes. I almost burst with pride to see a dog I have fostered go off with their new family.?
As an artist, Sarah felt she could best communicate the story of the atrocities happening in Congo - child soldiers, a rape occurrence of one woman per minute, entire villages displaced and living in constant fear - through paint and color. Her mixed media portraits display a sense of dignity and regality in the Congolese women and are left ?unfinished? because she believes the women are themselves unfinished. There is immense healing yet to occur, both personally and nationally. She wanted to showcase the humanity, the brokenness, the restoration, and the dignity of these women in her work. Ten percent of the proceeds from this collection will go to World Relief Congo because of the amazing, intelligent, lasting work they are doing there.
