SUMMARY:Library Town & Gown - Understanding Earthquakes
DESCRIPTION:As familiar as earthquakes are to Southern California residents\, the "whys" and "hows" of the temblors still remain a mystery to the average citizen.\n\n\n\nIn an effort to dispel some of that mystery\, the Fullerton Public Library\, as part of its popular "Town and Gown" speaker series\, will present a special program on earthquakes Tuesday\, June 12.\n\n\n\nGuest speaker for the program\, which will begin at 7 p.m.\, will be Dr. David Bowman\, professor of geological sciences at California State University\, Fullerton. The program will be held in the Community Room of the Fullerton Main Library\, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave.\, adjacent to Fullerton City Hall.\n\n\n\nAdmission is free.\n\n\n\nIn his presentation\, Bowman will explain the causes of earthquakes and briefly discuss current understanding of seismic hazards in California. His lecture is designed to both give an appreciation of why earthquakes are so difficult to understand and predict and to review the fundamentals of earthquake preparedness.\n\n\n\nThe "Town and Gown" series is co-sponsored by California State University\, Fullerton. The Bowman lecture is the last of the current academic year.\n\n\n\nFurther information about the Bowman presentation or the "Town and Gown" series may be obtained by calling the Fullerton Main Library at (714) 738-6326.\n\n\n\nPersons requiring special accommodations to attend the Bowman lecture are asked to notify the library staff prior to June 12.
